Student Visas

If you would like to come to the UK to study then you need to apply for a student visa. We can assist you applying for this, or if you would like to extend your current visa, or if you want to bring your spouse and dependents. You have to provide a range of documents to prove you qualify for a student visa. We can assess your case to make sure it is submitted correctly. This will avoid delays and improve your chances of success. You can avoid an appeal case by getting this right first time.

To qualify you must prove that you plan to attend one of the following:

  • A recognised full-time degree course at a publicly funded institution of further or higher education (e.g. a university)
  • A private education institution for a course run during the week that involves a minimum of 15 hours of organized daytime study a week.
  • At an independent fee-paying school for a full-time course of study.

If you have not already chosen or been accepted on a course you may be able to apply for entry as a Prospective Student.

Students must be able to support themselves and afford the costs of the course and accommodation. You must be able to show you can support yourself (and any dependents) without needing public funds. You are allowed to work for 20 hours a week part-time during term time (except if a work placement is part of your studies) and 40 hours a week during holidays.

If you have been refused a student visa you may be able to appeal this contact us for advice.
If you have been refused a student visa extension you may be able to appeal that decision.

As of October 2004, a Student Visa can only be switched to a Work Permit if the student has completed a degree course in the UK. This must be at a publicly funded further or higher education institution or a bona fide private education institution. If you are currently in the UK on a student visa but have left your degree level course, then you cannot apply for a work permit unless you return to your country of residence. You would need to apply for the Work Permit out of country. If you have completed the course and are awaiting your graduation ceremony, a signed original letter is required to state that all modules have been passed.

The rules are changing all the time and the plans are to move to a points based system under the Governments 5 Year Strategy for immigration. Please check with us on the latest position.
